Bill Spencer has sent The Prescotian a very sad e-mail, as follows, “I heard yesterday that Alan Gray died on Friday 18th, January. Alan started at PGS in 1961 and was a year ahead of me there and at St Michael’s. No funeral details at the moment”.
Alan was a self employed financial consultant and lived in Garswood near St. Helens.

Sorry to hear this news from Bill. In my first year at PGS, Alan & I were in the 100 & 220 yds juniors at Sports Day, and we were easily beaten by M A Laurenson. We then fought out the 440 yds junior final without M.A.L which Alan just managed to win. I was unaware that Alan had also been at St Michaels Junior school; I’d built up a reputation there as a good sprinter but had never raced against Alan until PGS.
Alan and I were in the same class at PGS for all except the first term when we were arranged alphabetically.
We used to travel to and from school quite often on the same Crosville H12 (to school) and H8 fron school, as Alan lived near the Hare & Hounds on Cronton Road in Logwood Road.
We had a few Subbuteo tournaments as well.
In August 1972 Alan invited me as a late substitute for a 6-lad holiday in Majorca.
Three of us were PGS lads, Alan, myself and Norman Cummerson.
RIP, Alan, you were good to know.
